Haute Couture Spring-Summer 1947, Corolle line
The two Spring-Summer 1947 lines, Corolle and En 8, were a dazzling success. Carmel Snow, editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar magazine, said: “My dear Christian, your dresses have such a New Look!”
The Bar suit paraded in front of an assembly conquered by this new-found femininity after years of wartime austerity. The flattering curves and elegant simplicity were enchanting.
This suit, composed of an ivory shantung jacket fastened with five buttons and a pleated black woollen skirt, was made by the head of atelier Pierre Cardin, who was still unknown at the time. It became the symbol of the New Look.
The Bar suit, an iconic piece of the Dior wardrobe, has been reinterpreted by the couturier’s successors, ensuring the continuity of this look while adding a touch of modernity.
